17/11/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 16 November the European Union allocated €700,000 in emergency humanitarian aid to help migrants stranded on the Belarusian side of the border with the EU (see EUROPE 12832/1). The first €200,000 of the package will be channelled through the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), particularly the Belarusian Red Cross, and will be used to provide food, emergency and hygiene kits and blankets. The use of the remaining €500,000 still needs to be refined with the humanitarian organisations active on the ground. The European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, called for “continuous access for humanitarian organisations on both sides of the border” between the EU and Belarus, so that they can rescue stranded people.
