EU, US, and Japan renew partnership against non-market practices

European Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, and Japanese Minister of Economy and Trade Hagiuda Koichi announced on Wednesday 17 November that they have agreed to renew their trilateral partnership. It focuses on the challenges posed by the non-market practices of some third countries.

This trilateral format was already launched in 2017. Work will resume in the coming weeks and the three interlocutors have indicated that they will meet in Geneva at the 12th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference.

In recent months, the EU has been keen to strengthen its ties with like-minded partners. It wants to have an influence on the international stage and impose rules-based trade on third countries that stray from the rules of international trade. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
