08/11/2021 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, strongly condemned on behalf of the EU on Sunday 7 November the assassination attempt against Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi. The latter was targeted by a drone bomb attack on the night of 6-7 November. “The perpetrators of this attempted attack must be held accountable. Any violence is unacceptable and must not be allowed to undermine the democratic process”, the High Representative of the Union stressed. He said that calm, restraint and dialogue were essential in the post-election period (see EUROPE 12819/27). “All parties must engage in political dialogue and cooperation to address the challenges Iraq is facing, in the interest of the country and the Iraqi people”, Mr Borrell added.
