27/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission decided on Wednesday 27 October to register a European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) asking the institution to present a proposal for a legal act to ensure that EU Member States take environmental considerations into account when adopting measures at national level. The title of this ECI is ‘Call to Action - Environmental protection in all policies’. The European Commission has ruled that it is admissible - which is why the ECI has been registered - but has not yet taken a decision on the substance. Registration means that the ECI organisers can start collecting the one million signatures required in seven EU countries for follow-up action. In due course, it will be up to the European Commission to decide what action it will take on this ECI. (AN)
