19/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – Stéphane Séjourné (France) was elected Chair of the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament on Tuesday 19 October in Strasbourg, following the departure of Dacian Cioloș. After an internal campaign, his candidacy attracted a large majority of supporters from the different sensibilities within the group, according to a press release. As Chair, he will continue the centre-right group’s ambition to implement major projects intended to strengthen the EU’s strategic autonomy, such as the European Green Deal, the EU economic recovery plan and defence of the Rule of law. Stéphane Séjourné promises to commit 100% to his mandate and will no longer chair the Renaissance delegation, although he will still remain a member. His replacement as head of the delegation will be discussed over the coming weeks. (LC)
