13/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 12 October, the European Commission opened a four-week public input period on how to make intelligent transport systems more efficient. These technologies provide real-time traffic information. Through this future initiative, the European Commission wishes in particular to extend the geographical coverage of these services to local road networks and to develop new services such as information on access restrictions for vehicles in certain urban areas. The development of EU-wide traffic information services also includes charging point data, the European Commission says. New data sources, such as those generated by the vehicles themselves, could also be used to improve traffic management and road maintenance operations.
