EU Council fails to adopt conclusions on children’s rights due to lack of compromise on LGBTIQ+ issue

EU Justice Ministers failed on Thursday 7 October to adopt the conclusions drawn up by the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the new EU strategy on the rights of the child (see EUROPE B12685A14).

Several Member States, “a small minority”, according to our sources, refused to adopt the text as it stands, embarrassed by the reference to LGBTIQ+ youth.

The Hungarian minister, Judit Varga, said on Twitter that she had vetoed the draft conclusions precisely for this...
