European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis announced his intention to build a “coalition of Trade Ministers across the globe who want to take action to promote trade in green goods and services”, on Thursday 7 October at the Sustainable Investment Summit.
As he regularly reminds us, the Commissioner believes that trade has a role to play in the green transition. He recalled the proposal made by the European Commission in February to include the obligation to respect the Paris Agreement in the conditions of trade agreements. And to demand that a commitment to climate neutrality by 2050 be included in trade agreements with G20 countries.
Mr Dombrovskis also announced that he would call for a ministerial meeting next year dedicated to trade, climate, and sustainability.
