EU secures further international support for designation of Marine Protected Areas in Antarctic

The EU’s efforts to build international support for the designation of new Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Southern Ocean bore fruit at the second ministerial meeting hosted by European Commissioner for Environment Virginijus Sinkevičius on 29 September.

Increasing the amount of protected areas around Antarctica is an EU priority for biodiversity conservation (see EUROPE B12784A7).
