Europol struggling to help Member States fight smugglers, says European Court of Auditors

Europol, the EU’s police cooperation agency, is supposed to support member states in the fight against migrant smuggling, yet it still cannot access relevant criminal databases or make full use of external information sources to do this job, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) concluded on Thursday 30 September in a report published the day after the Commission presented a new strategy against people smugglers (see EUROPE B12801A1).
