06/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on 6 September that it was “deeply concerned” about “the dire conditions faced by migrants at the EU-Belarus border”. Reports of “cross-border pushback of migrants, including families and children, and lack of adequate access to asylum for those seeking international protection or shelter and assistance are particularly alarming”, IOM said in a statement. “We call on all states to ensure that the Rule of law is respected and enforced at the borders”. Several thousand migrants have crossed the border between Belarus and Lithuania, Latvia or Poland in recent months. Some are trapped in makeshift camps and are not allowed to enter the EU, such as in Poland where the government has declared a state of emergency at its border. (SP)
