06/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – In a joint editorial published on Monday 6 September, more than 200 medical and health journals warn of the impact of global warming and biodiversity loss on human health, urging leaders of all countries to take urgent action. “The environment and health are inextricably linked. Climate change puts us at risk in many ways, including significant impacts on health and health care delivery”, said Eric J. Rubin, editor-in-chief of The New England Journal of Medicine and co-author of the editorial. The text mentions, among other things, the more than 50% increase in heat-related mortality among people over 65 over the past 20 years, the increase in dehydration, tropical infections and the risk of pandemics, as well as problems of under-nutrition and access to water.
