06/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 3 September, the NGO WWF published an analysis of 14 of the ‘Territorial Just Transition Plans’ defining the territories of the EU Member States where the ‘Just Transition Fund’ will be used, as well as the objectives and measures envisaged for each territory. Of the 14 plans reviewed (almost half of which are in Polish territory), WWF found that nine do not include a commitment to end the use of fossil gas by 2035, and eight do not include an exit from coal or oil shale by 2030. For the NGO, “this contradicts the commitments made in the Paris Agreement”. Together with nine other organisations, WWF has therefore written a joint letter to the European Commission calling for the plans to be in line with the EU’s climate objectives.
