30/08/2021 (Agence Europe) – The draft proposal to restrict the intentional use of microplastics, including the option and duration of possible transitional periods, should be discussed with Member States in the ‘REACH Committee’ before the end of 2021, said the European Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, said Monday 30 August in a written reply to a question from several MEPs. He also added: “If agreed, the draft would then undergo a two-month scrutiny by the European Parliament and the EU Council before the Commission can formally adopt it”. The draft restriction was initially expected to be in place by the end of May 2021, in accordance with the procedure that was laid down in the EU REACH Regulation (1907/2006).
