Hungary and Russia agree on new gas supply agreement

30/08/2021 (Agence Europe)Hungary has agreed with Russia on “all details” of a new Russian gas supply agreement “to ensure that Hungary has a long-term stable and predictable energy supply”, announced Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto in a video posted on Facebook on Monday 30 August. According to the Minister, this new contract, which has been concluded for a period of 15 years (with an option to modify the volume of deliveries after the tenth year), will be signed by the end of September and shall enter into force on 1 October. Claiming that he had obtained a “much more favourable” price than the price negotiated under the previous agreement that was signed in 1995, he said that the contract was for the annual delivery of 4.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas to Hungary: 3.5 billion via Hungary's interconnection with Serbia and 1 billion cubic metres via the gas pipeline from Austria.
