Temporary easing of certain procedures for certifying origin of poultry meat imported into EU

On Friday 27 August, the European Commission published an implementing regulation granting a derogation to certain operators who have to prove the origin of agricultural products imported into the European Union.

This regulation, which will be in force until the end of 2021, allows for a relaxation of the rules in force since May 2021 concerning poultry.

While third country authorities have encountered difficulties in providing certificates of origin in accordance with the new rules, the movement of goods within the EU has been affected.

The Commission thus introduces a temporary derogation “in order to ensure a smooth flow of goods through customs”. Traders will be able to provide evidence different from that required in the May 2021 regulation to prove the origin of goods.
