27/08/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 27 August, the European Commission approved the acquisition of Leerdammer, based in the Netherlands, by Lactalis, based in France. Leerdammer is mainly active in the production and distribution of cheese. Lactalis is active in the production and distribution of milk and dairy products, including cheese, cream, butter, desserts, and ultra-fresh dairy products. The two companies’ activities mainly overlap in the production and distribution of cheese. The Commission concluded that the proposed concentration would not raise competition concerns, given the specific nature of Leerdammer products and the presence of many credible and well-established competitors in the segment of pressed cheeses with holes.
