27/08/2021 (Agence Europe) – In a telephone conversation with the new Iranian Foreign Minister, Hussein Amir-Abdollahian, on 27 August, EU High Representative Josep Borrell stressed the “great importance” of a quick resumption of the Vienna talks in order to get the Iranian nuclear agreement (JCPOA) back on track. According to a press release from the European External Action Service, the High Representative recalled the need for all participants in the talks to adopt a realistic and flexible approach, in order to reach a compromise that will be in the interest of all. Mr Borrell and Mr Amir-Abdollahian also discussed Afghanistan, with the High Representative saying that the role of regional and international partners in ensuring stability in and outside the region was crucial. They agreed to stay in touch and keep consulting on the situation. (CG)
