27/08/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 27 August, the European Commission announced that two flights of the EU humanitarian airlift were to deliver 125 tonnes of supplies to Haiti, which was hit by a devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake on 14 August. The first flight was due to arrive in Port-au-Prince the same day, and the second a few days later. The cargo included medical equipment, medicines, water, and sanitation and hygiene products provided by the EU’s humanitarian partners. By 15 August, the EU had already mobilised EUR 3 million in emergency aid to cover the most pressing needs of the affected communities. Since the beginning of the year, the EU has mobilised over EUR 14 million in humanitarian aid for Haiti, focussing on disaster preparedness, emergency response to the food crisis, and the needs generated by the increase in gang-related violence.
