06/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament approved (with 516 votes in favour, 143 against and 35 abstentions), on Tuesday 6 July, the compromise text between EU institutions on the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFF) (see EUROPE 12663/30, 12616/8). For 2021-2027, these funds have been given €5.31 billion in budgetary resources under joint management (in current prices) and €797 million under direct and indirect management. The final text allows for the financing of investments that will improve the energy efficiency, safety, and working conditions of EU fishing vessels, while ensuring the sustainability of the sector. It also encourages generational renewal in the profession by supporting the first acquisition of vessels by young fishermen. The Greens/EFA group in Parliament has tabled an amendment rejecting the compromise text on this fund, but to no avail. (LC)
