06/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg call for an end to the tax exemption for aviation fuels in a letter to the European Commission on Tuesday 6 July. “This exemption must come to an end if we are to fully and fairly implement the European Green Deal and, in particular, the ‘polluter pays’ principle”, highlight the Mobility Ministers of these three Member States, as the Commission finalises its proposal for a revised Energy Tax Directive to be included in the ‘fit for 55’ legislative package (see EUROPE 12755/10). In their view, minimum taxation for aviation fuels “would promote innovation and fair competition within the EU”, and avoid fragmentation of the internal market. The three countries also believe that the EU should launch an international initiative to generalise minimum taxation of aviation fuels. See the letter: https://bit.ly/3hDeaVz (MB)
