05/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson has convened a refugee resettlement forum for 9 July, with representatives from the US, Canada and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) among others, to discuss “how we can step up resettlement and other safe and legal avenues of protection”, as she said on Twitter on 2 July. “The Covid-19 pandemic has derailed the implementation of resettlement programmes worldwide, and has led to a decline in resettlement departures. It is high time to correct this situation and take measures to protect the most vulnerable”, she also wrote in a blog post on 5 July. Since 2015, 80,000 refugees from third countries have been resettled in EU Member States. (SP)
