On Friday 2 July, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, announced the appointment of Belén Martínez Carbonell (Spain) as Managing Director for Human Rights, Global and Multilateral Issues at the European External Action Service, and of Kristin de Peyron (Sweden) as Director of Human Resources.
Mr Borrell also announced the appointment of 19 new Heads of Delegations of the European Union, who will take up their duties as of 1 September.
Europe. Dimiter Tzantchev, a Bulgarian national, has been appointed Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Israel, replacing Emanuele Giaufret, who is taking over as Head of the Delegation to Serbia. Lithuanian Kestutis Jankauskas is appointed Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Kazakhstan, and Latvian Janis Mazeiks as Head of the Delegation to Moldova.
Africa. Paola Amadei from Italy becomes Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Lesotho, and Gwilym Jones takes over as Head of the Delegation to Mauritania. The Delegation to the Central African Republic will be led by Douglas Carpenter, and the Delegation to Eswatini by Dessislava Choumelova from Bulgaria.
Frenchman Irchad Razaaly heads the Delegation to Ghana, and German Manuel Mueller heads the Delegation to Sierra Leone. Samuela Isopi, an Italian national, has been appointed Head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria, and to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Latin America. Katja Afheldt becomes Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Dominican Republic, with Paolo Berizzi (Italy) taking the same position in Uruguay, and Gilles Bertrand in Colombia. Spaniards Amador Sánchez Rico and Javier García de Viedma lead the Delegations to Argentina and Paraguay respectively.
Asia. Axelle Nicaise from Germany becomes head of the Delegation of the European Union to Mongolia, with Charles Whiteley as Head of Delegation to Bangladesh and Iwona Piorko Bermig as Head of the Delegation to Singapore. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
