The European Commission opened a public consultation on Tuesday 29 June on a draft implementing act to establish rules for the development of voluntary standards and certification schemes for the sustainable production of biofuels, bioliquids and biomass fuels.
The aim is to ensure that compliance with the sustainability criteria of the European Renewable Energy Directive (2018/2001) (RED II) by economic operators in the bioenergy industry is monitored in an efficient and harmonised manner.
In particular, the text includes rules on complaint procedures in case of non-compliance by economic operators.
“For each type of non-conformity, there shall be a transparent set of rules and procedures to ensure timely enforcement of corrective measures and sanctions, including suspensions (of participation in the voluntary scheme), where appropriate”, the draft implementing act states.
Contributions to the public consultation can be sent to the European Commission until 27 July.
