01/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Union regulation (2019/1781) on the ecodesign of electric motors and variable speed drives entered into force on Thursday 1 July. Revising the previous regulation from 2009, these new rules aim in particular to strengthen the energy efficiency requirements for AC induction motors (such as those found in washing machines, air conditioners or heat pumps) with a power output between 0.12 kW and 1000 kW. In addition, this regulation now governs the efficiency of variable speed drives and electronic devices that adjust the speed of an electric motor according to application needs, which can lead to energy savings. However, the new rules do not cover engines specifically designed for cars, as well as other types of engines. See the regulation: https://bit.ly/367sGQi (DG)
