EU-27 to discuss relations with China on 5 October in Slovenia

The European Council’s agenda for the next 6 months will focus on the EU’s relations with its foreign partners.

The calendar unveiled by European Council President Charles Michel on Friday 25 June mentions an informal EU-27 dinner on China and trade on 5 October, on the eve of the Western Balkans summit in Slovenia. This Member State will hold the Presidency of the EU Council from 1 July.

On 25-26 November there will be an EU-ASEM Summit in Cambodia and on 15 December an Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels, both of which will be discussed in preparation for the EU Summit on 21-22 October in Brussels. In the wake of the Eastern Partnership summit, the EU summit will also discuss Africa.

On intra-European issues, the European Council will take stock in October and December of the Covid-19 pandemic. At the end of October, it will have a discussion on the issues related to the digital sector.

Finally, the Spring 2022 European Council will address economic recovery, the social agenda, and industrial policy. This is when the first recommendations on the future of the EU from the Conference on the Future of Europe will be transmitted to the leaders.
