The European Commission announced, on Friday 25 June, that the online professional network LinkedIn has signed up to the EU Code of Conduct on countering illegal hate speech online (see EUROPE 12343/7).
The Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, welcomed the arrival of a “major player” in the code.
LinkedIn is the eleventh signatory, after Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google+, Snapchat, Dailymotion, Jeuxvideo.com and TikTok.
The last monitoring exercise of the code, conducted a year ago, showed that on average “companies assessed 90% of reported content within 24 hours and 71% of content considered illegal hate speech was removed”, the Commission recalled on Friday.
