Brussels, 25/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 24 June, the European Council condemned recent malicious cyber activities against Member States, including in Ireland and Poland. The Irish health service was the victim of a cyber attack in May, allegedly carried out by the DarkSide group, while in mid-June the Polish government announced a large-scale Russian cyber attack on Polish politicians. “Cyber attacks from Russian territory must cease immediately. We have proof that these attacks were aimed at destabilising, spreading disinformation and weakening the whole of the EU”, stressed Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. In their conclusions, the leaders invite the Council to “explore appropriate measures within the framework of the cyber diplomacy toolbox” (see EUROPE 11811/27). Measure within this toolbox also include sanctions (see EUROPE 12257/9). See the conclusions: https://bit.ly/3dcz64q (CG and LC)
