Lucia Nicholsonová on track for re-election as head of European Parliament Committee on Employment and Social Affairs

11/06/2021 (Agence Europe)Following the European Parliament’s legal opinion stating that Lucia Nicholsonová (Renew Europe, Slovakia) was losing her position as Chair of the committee (see EUROPE 12738/28), the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs is set to elect a new Chair on Monday 14 June. However, Ms Nicholsonová is expected to be re-elected, according to an agreement that has been made between coordinators of the EPP, S&D, Renew Europe, Greens/EFA and The Left that will last until the end of the mandate. No names have been leaked in relation to the ECR for the time being. The Slovak MEP had left the ECR group in May due to political differences, notably over the potential integration of the Hungarian Fidesz delegation into conservative ranks. Renew Europe has therefore taken over the position of Chair of a sixth committee (see EUROPE 12726/31). The ECR has quickly called for a new election to respect the allocation of parliamentary committees between political groups in accordance with the D’Hondt rule. It won the case in principle. (PH)
