11/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, sent a letter on Wednesday 9 June to the Polish Minister for European Affairs, Konrad Szymański, regarding a recent motion by the Polish Prime Minister to review the constitutionality of the EU treaties. “The Commission is concerned about this motion as it contests fundamental principles of EU law, in particular the primacy of EU law”, commented European Commission spokesperson Christian Wigand on Thursday 10 June. The Commission therefore requests the withdrawal of the motion of the Prime minister with the constitutional tribunal. Warsaw has 1 month to respond to the letter, he said. Poland is not the only Member State in this situation. On the same day, the European Commission challenged Germany for infringement of the rule of EU law (see EUROPE 12737/26). (PH)
