03/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 3 June, the Council of the EU adopted conclusions on the strategy for smart and sustainable mobility, which seeks to put rail at the forefront of the strategy. These conclusions should serve to express Member States’ ambitions regarding rail and to provide guidance in several areas of work, ranging from modal shift to investment and connectivity. “Against the background of the European Green Deal, the sustainable and smart mobility strategy and – of course – the European Year of Rail, now is an ideal time for the Council to take stock of efforts to promote railways and make an ambitious political statement on rail”, summarised the Portuguese Minister for Infrastructure and Housing, Pedro Nuno Santos.
