26/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 26 May, the EU Council adopted without debate conclusions (https://bit.ly/3v2kM5w ) in which it highlights “that a sustainable blue economy as part of the EU’s Integrated Maritime Policy and a sustainable use of oceans and seas play an important role in the European Green Deal agenda” (see EUROPE 12722/28). The EU Council calls for urgent efforts to address marine and land-based pollution, to reduce the amount of plastic waste dumped in the oceans and seas, to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, to end harmful subsidies, and to stop the illegal exploitation of marine resources and the introduction of invasive alien species.
