26/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – According to a study (https://bit.ly/3yNiLfV ) on the effects of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) on climate change, which was published on 21 May by the European Commission, the CAP’s contribution to the EU’s climate targets is estimated at 26% for 2014-2020 (above the 20% commitments), “even if few CAP measures were primarily designed to address such targets”. However, the reduction of emissions from managed agricultural soils is better addressed in the CAP than livestock emissions. The evaluation includes a simulation estimating a reduction in agricultural emissions of 4.6%, compared to a baseline without the CAP (a 3.5% reduction thanks to the greening of aid). The second pillar measures contributed to reducing GHG emissions by 1.1%. (LC)
