07/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – The electoral reform adopted on 4 May by the National Assembly and the appointment of new magistrates to the Supreme Electoral Court are not the result of a dialogue between all stakeholders and “move Nicaragua further away from an inclusive, democratic and peaceful solution to the current political crisis”, said the spokesperson of the European External Action Service in a statement on Friday 7 May. They even run counter to the positions of the Organization of American States and the 2011 EU Election Mission (see EUROPE 10494/11). The EU nevertheless promises to engage constructively to help ensure that credible parliamentary elections are held in the country in November. (MB)
