06/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 6 May, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell condemned the violence perpetrated by both protesters and police in Colombia as the country has plunged into a protest movement against the policies of Colombian President Iván Duque; according to a provisional report, the violence has left more than 20 people dead. “The EU trusts in the action of the institutions to investigate and to bring to justice those responsible for abuses or violations of human rights,” he stressed. With Colombia facing numerous challenges notably related to implementing the peace agreement reached with the FARC guerrillas in 2016 (see EUROPE 12709/11), he advocated stability and supported Mr Duque’s announcement of a “national dialogue” to find a way out of the crisis.
