European Commission consults on its new eco-design and energy labelling work plan

On Wednesday 5 May, the European Commission opened a public consultation on its 2020-2024 work plan on eco-design and energy labelling.

Scheduled for the third quarter of this year, the plan aims to set priorities for the adoption of product-specific eco-design and energy labelling legislation, selecting products to be considered for new regulations while setting out the planning for revisions to existing regulations.

With this new plan, the Commission intends in particular: – to complete all the work initiated in the previous work plan, in particular the legally required resizing of existing energy labels; – to examine the currently unregulated product groups that could be regulated in the coming years; and – to ensure proper implementation of the rules by market surveillance authorities and the development of the European Energy Labelling Database (EPREL).

The consultation period is open until 2 June.
