23/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – The General Court of the European Union on Wednesday 21 April annulled EU Council Implementing Decisions (CFSP) 2017/497 and 2020/374, as well as EU Council Implementing Regulations 2017/489 and 2020/371, insofar as these legislative acts maintain the name of Mrs Aisha Gaddafi, the daughter of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, on the lists of persons sanctioned by the European Union since 2011. In particular, it found that the applicant’s criticism that the contested measures lacked a factual basis justifying the retention of her name on the contested lists was well-founded. The effect of Decision 2020/374 shall be maintained until the date of expiry of the time limit for any appeal or, if an appeal is lodged within that time limit, until the appeal is dismissed.
