22/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – Following the conclusion of an interim interinstitutional agreement on the ‘Climate Law’ (see EUROPE 12703/1), the European Commission and the European Committee of the Regions announced at a virtual event on Wednesday 21 April the launch of a new Chamber of National Ambassadors to support the roll-out of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy within each Member State. The new chamber consists of 27 Committee members (one per Member State). On the same day, the Covenant pledged to strengthen its role in the fight against climate change by aligning its commitments with the goal of climate neutrality by 2050. As a reminder, the Covenant of Mayors has more than 10,000 signatories committed to implementing energy and climate plans aimed at achieving the goals set by the Paris Agreement on climate. (PH)
