Josep Borrell visits Sahel to emphasise importance of region for EU and to attend funeral of Idriss Déby

On Thursday 22 April, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, began a mission to the Sahel region of Mauritania, Chad and Mali to demonstrate the strategic importance of the region for the EU and to attend the funeral of Chadian President Idriss Déby Itno on Friday 23 April (see EUROPE B12703A35), before travelling to Mali on 24 April.
