21/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – The chairs of the EPP, S&D, Renew Europe and ECR groups and the co-chairs of the Greens/EFA group said on Wednesday 21 April that they were “shocked” by reports of the involvement of the Russian intelligence service GRU in the explosion of an arms depot in the Czech Republic in 2014 (see EUROPE 12701/2). “An attack with the involvement of the GRU on European citizens in any of the EU Member States should be viewed as a serious attack on the entire EU. This is an unacceptable act of hostility”, they stressed in a statement. It also demonstrates, they say, the “disturbing lengths that Russia will go to to undermine Europe”. Underlining their solidarity with the Czech Republic, the chairs called on Member States and the EU Council to show solidarity by taking strong, joint and concrete action towards Russia in response to this attack.
