24/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 24 March, the Commission launched a public consultation to feed into its assessment of the Directive on combating terrorism, three years after its entry into force. It covers “the relevance, effectiveness, efficiency and coherence” of the rules, the Commission explains in a statement, as well as “the impact of the rules on fundamental rights and freedoms, the Rule of law and support and assistance to victims of terrorism”. The Commission will present the result of its reflections at the end of 2021. The Directive on combating terrorism criminalises and punishes terrorism-related offences, such as travelling abroad to commit a terrorist offence, returning to the EU, training for terrorist purposes and terrorist financing. The consultation is open until 16 June. Link to the consultation: https://bit.ly/3cfj3CH (SP)
