09/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The Council of the EU announced on Monday 8 March that Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, and the High Representative of the Union have mandated Christian Danielsson to work closely with Carl Hartzell, the EU Ambassador to Georgia, to act as mediator in the recently resumed talks between the political parties in Georgia. The Swedish diplomat’s mission is part of the monitoring of the political talks, which resumed on Michel’s initiative on 1 March (see EUROPE 12669/33). Danielsson, who was Director-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission, will visit Georgia in the next few days to hold talks with all of the stakeholders in the process. An update on the progress of talks is expected in the margins of the EU-Georgia Association Council meeting, which will take place on 16 March in Brussels. (CG)
