09/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – Criteria for the certification of renewable gases will be examined as part of the package of initiatives ‘Fit for 55’, assured Catharina Sikow-Magny, Director of the European Commission’s Energy Department (DG ENER), on Tuesday 9 March, during an event organised by Eurogas. Scheduled for June, the package will include a revision of the directive (2018/2001) on renewable energies, Ms Sikow-Magny recalled. They continue, “Our main priority is to ensure that we move to a decarbonised economy by 2050 and that there is additionality when we talk about renewable gases, for instance”. Asked about the ongoing revision of the TEN-E Regulation (347/2013), she assured that hydrogen networks, electrolysers and smart gas networks, three new categories covered by the proposed revision, concern renewable and low-carbon gases, and not fossil gas.
