09/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission will adopt by written procedure, on Wednesday 10 March, a Communication on new perspectives for EU humanitarian action in light of the Covid-19 crisis. While the global poverty and the humanitarian situation were already worrying, with 90 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in 2016, the impact of the coronavirus pandemic has further increased the number of people in poverty to 200 million. The Communication will address the challenges of meeting these enormous vital needs internationally in a context where some of the donor countries have reduced their aid. The Communication will be presented by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, Josep Borrell, and the Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič.
