26/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – The EU and Germany are mobilising €10 million to help caregivers fight Covid-19 in West Africa, announced the European Commission on Friday 26 February. On the one hand, this funding will make it possible to speed up the deployment of the SORMAS (Surveillance, Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System software and, on the other, will provide medical equipment. Ventilators and oxygen concentrators were delivered on the same day to the West African Health Organization (WAHO) for ECOWAS member countries. The disease surveillance and outbreak response software was initially developed in response to the Ebola virus. It is going to be used for coronavirus. This “will help protect carers, support response teams, and improve the management of epidemics”, commented the Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, in a statement. (AN)
