25/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 24 February, Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric announced that a meeting of the parties in the Cyprus conflict would be convened at the end of April. “Following the consultations conducted on behalf of the Secretary-General by [...] Jane Holl Lute [...] over the past several months, the Secretary-General intends to convene an informal five-plus-one meeting on the Cyprus issue in Geneva, Switzerland, from 27 to 29 April 2021,” explained the spokesperson in a statement. “The purpose of the meeting will be to determine whether common ground exists for the parties to negotiate a lasting solution to the Cyprus problem within a foreseeable horizon,” he added. The meeting will therefore bring together the leaders of the island’s Turkish and Greek Cypriot communities and representatives from Greece, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. (CG)
