15/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 15 February, the EU Council formally adopted two regulations aimed at mitigating the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic on the transport sector. The first (see EUROPE 12645/10) will maintain relaxed requirements for the use of airport slots, while initiating a gradual return to European rules in this area. In March, airlines will therefore once again be obliged to use part of their slots, but only 50%, as opposed to the traditional 80%. The second regulation (see EUROPE 12650/5) will allow the validity of certain certificates and authorisations to be extended by ten months in States where this is currently impossible due to health restrictions. Both texts, approved by the European Parliament last week, will enter into force the day after their publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
