05/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – The Council of the European Union renewed for 6 months, on Friday 5 February, the European sanctions against 14 persons and 21 entities linked to terrorist activities (see EUROPE 12540/12). These persons and entities are subject to a freezing of their funds and other financial assets in the EU, and EU operators are prohibited from making funds and economic resources available to them. The EU Council drew up the list for the first time in 2001, after the terrorist attacks of 11 September, in order to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1373/2001. The European list is revised at least every 6 months. The EU also has a specific sanctions regime targeting the Islamic State (Daesh) and al-Qaeda. (MB)
