05/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – The NATO 2030 Young Leaders Group proposed, on Thursday 4 February, as part of the NATO 2030 initiative, the appointment of a NATO special representative for relations with the EU, ideally matched by a similar appointment from the EU in order to raise the level of interaction. “This would create more ownership for the portfolio and help streamline cooperation across policy fields”, this group of 14 young leaders said in a set of recommendations, one of which is for ‘a more effective and strategic NATO-EU partnership’. It also suggests launching a series of sectoral dialogues in the framework of the NATO-EU strategic partnership, which should lead to a NATO-EU summit at the end of 2022. The group advocates sectoral dialogues on new areas: emerging technologies, climate and economic security, space governance and strategic approaches to China.
