27/01/2021 (Agence Europe) – After several weeks of discussions, anglers from Normandy and Brittany are once again authorised to fish in Channel Islands (Jersey) waters, announced Virginijus Sinkevičius, European Commissioner for Fisheries, on Tuesday 26 January. Pierre Karleskind (Renew Europe, France), Chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries, said he was pleased “to see this announcement for provisional licences”. Since the end of December, because of Brexit, French anglers could no longer enter the area. On Tuesday 26 January, the Jersey Minister for External Relations, Ian Gorst, announced temporary access until the end of April for anglers who had a licence under the ‘Granville Bay Treaty’. Permanent licences will arrive later. (LC)
